Who’s eligible to attend camp:

  • Each camper or counselor in training (CIT) must be affected by the stigma against the LGBTQIA+ community or HIV/AIDS. For us, that means that the camper or CIT is HIV-positive, or someone in their household is HIV-positive. Or, the camper or CIT identifies as LGBTQIA+, or someone in their household identifies as LGBTQIA+.

  • Children who will be age 14 or younger on the first day of camp are eligible to be campers; those who will be 15 or older on the first day of camp are eligible to be CITs.

  • If you’re not sure about your child’s eligibility, email us at info@camp-starlight.org.

About the application process:

  • Start by filling out the online application for each child.

  • The Camp Starlight team will review the application and reach out to you to schedule a follow-up call to learn more about your child’s interests and needs, and how to help them have a fantastic time at camp.

  • You will work with your healthcare provider to complete a health form for your child. The completed health form must be submitted to the camp team in advance of drop-off.

Our COVID safety approach:

  • We strongly recommend the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters prior to attending Camp Starlight, but we will not be requiring them at this time. The camp board and commission are closely monitoring public health developments and tracking best practices to help keep everyone safe. Policies and requirements are subject to change.

  • A person cannot come to camp if any of the following are true:

    • They test positive for COVID on a rapid test at check-in

    • They have symptoms at check-in (fever, cough, sore throat, rash, congestion, vomiting  and/or diarrhea)

    • Anyone in their household has been diagnosed with COVID in the past week (Sunday before camp or later)

  • On site, we will still require masks in Club Med and will provide masks for campers and volunteers as needed. We will have rapid tests on hand at camp to test people who have symptoms. If a person has symptoms or tests positive for COVID, they must leave camp.

Getting to camp:

  • We don't want transportation to be a barrier for any child to come to Camp Starlight.

  • Most children take a bus from Portland (provided by Camp Starlight, and staffed by our team) to the site. If it is a hardship for you to get to the Portland drop-off site, let our team know and we’ll discuss the options.

We are always happy to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out with any questions/concerns to info@camp-starlight.org and connect with us on Facebook.

APPLICATION PROCESS
FOR CAMPERS AND CITs

Online registration form
We accept applications on a rolling basis, but preference is given for those received by June 30 for camp in August.

Health forms
There are two parts: (1) The parent/guardian fills out a questionnaire with the child’s health history, medications, and allergies; (2) The child’s provider fills out an evaluation and confirms they are able to participate in camp activities. In certain situations, a negative TB result is required.

Release forms
These are the legal forms that the parent/guardian must sign (electronically — you can do it on your phone or computer). These are sent in the weeks before camp.

FOR CAMPERS ONLY
Behavior agreement
Each child agrees to the camp behavior guidelines (this can be done electronically, on your phone or computer).

Phone call (one per family)
We’ll set up a time to talk with you to make sure that camp is a good fit for your child (or children), and to learn more about how we can make sure they have the best possible camp experience this year.

FOR CITs ONLY
Application, interview and training
If your child is eligible to be a CIT, the CIT program directors will contact you.
